Camiguin Island, Philippines

A natural pear-shaped with majestic sceneries and finest white beaches – no wonder,Guest Posting this is the most visited island in Mindanao. The island is the smallest province in Northern Mindanao. And second smallest in terms of population all over the Philippines. Bounded by Macajalar Bay (west) and Bohol Sea (north), it is approximately 90 kilometers north of Cagayan de Oro City.It was never the intention of the island to replace what we called “paradise”, but I am proud to say, “it’s the closest place to paradise”.The island is composed of five towns, namely: Mambajao, Catarman, Guinsiliban, Sagay , and Mahinog. Mambajao is the capital, where most of the hotels and resorts are located. The island port and airport for light planes is also located here.Camiguin culture is a mixture of both Boholanon and Cebuano culture. People are friendly and very hospitable.” The Island Born Of Fire”, this is how other tourists and explorers named the Komodo Island Scuba diving island because of hosting the seven volcanoes namely : Mt. Hibok – Hibok, Mt. Vulcan, Mt. Tres Marias, Mt. Guinsiliban, Mt. Mambajao, Mt. Timpong , and Mt. Uhay. The most famous one is the Mt. Hibok – Hibok which stands 1552 meters high. There are so many beautiful destinations in the island that you will surely love. First stop is the famous Ardent Hot Spring, located in Esperanza Tagdo, Mambajao, Camiguin. It has 6 different pools, with different depth and warmth – cold and hot. The hottest pool has a temperature of 40 °C which comes from the bowels of Mt. Hibok – Hibok. There are also cottages, restaurants, and coffee shop for both local and foreign tourists. A lot of people believe that dipping into the waters of the pool can cure ailments. With the increasing number of tourists coming in, the provincial government makes sure that it is cleaned every now and then. The Cross Marker and Sunken Cemetery is the only witness to a massive volcanic holocaust after Mt. Vulcan erupted 1871. It almost swept the entire town of Catarman. The eruption lies 20 ft. underwater. During All Souls ‘ Day and All Saints’ Day , people are coming here to visit their love ones and a fluvial procession is done to honor the sunken graves of their forefathers.Just across the views of sunken cemetery is the Walkway to Old Volcano where the fourteen Stations of the Cross (“Via Cruzes”) landmark is found and during PANAAD Pilgrimage, hundreds of people are coming here. This is also the place where you can find the life size statues of the fourteen stations. This is called walkway because of the series of steps, not to mention the hundreds of steps you are going to take to reach all of the stations.Another must see place in the island is the Katibawasan Falls with 250 feet in high with a free flowing water coming from Mt. Timpong. It is a very nice place to relax, enjoy the fresh-cold water and the ferns and ground- orchids widely growing around the falls.Camiguin Island is also very proud for its very own whitebeachesand the most visited is the white island just 1.4 kilometers off the northern shores of the island. Tourists can enjoy the white sand, the clear water and the entire island of Camiguin.Everyone can enjoy the beauty of Camiguin Island, whether locals or tourists. Mother Nature is just so good to give the island these beautiful and natural wonders. There are so many reasons to choose Camiguin Island – falls, seas, resorts and natural wonders. But one thing is for sure – I choose Camiguin Island because this is what paradise looks like.
